This tour will take you to the surrounding area of Doñana National Park where watching birds from a very short distance is possible for most of the year. Visiting the park in spring time, the breeding season, will allow you to enjoy the typical breeders nesting and feeding their chicks. On the other hand, autumn, with the first rainfalls, is a great time to follow the bird migration and the arrival of the first wintering species. In Winter the marshes receive species that have bred in Northern Europe and spend the winter months in Doñana feeding and roosting.
What to see:
Purple Swamphen, Red-knobbed Coot, Flamingo, Cattle Egret, Great Egret, Glossy Ibis, Black-Winged Kite, Azure-winged Magpie, and several species of ducks. During the winter, and with a bit of luck we often encounter Spanish Imperial Eagle, Marble Teal or Short-eared Owl.
Doñana is one of also important for wintering bird species that arrive from central and Northern Europe, like Harriers, Lapwing, Black-winged Stilt, Greylag Goose, Cranes to mention a few.
